To be frank I'm not a big fan of the grass feature in the game and seeing a pvp tournament use it seems a bit weird. As nice as it looks, it negatively impacts fps and causes a paradoxical gameplay problem shown below.
Grass on: standing looking at prone ![]() Grass on: prone looking at standing ![]() Grass off: standing looking at prone ![]() Grass off: prone looking at standing ![]() As the pictures show, the prone guy is at a massive disadvantage when grass is on because the standing guy can see him quite well on flat ground but the prone guy doesn't see anything. It should also be noted that even with grass off, soldiers still sink into the grass at a distance so the grass setting doesn't affect how you're seen from a distance. In my books it's a big letdown to be forced to stay up to see your enemy as well as he sees you. Especially in a pvp setting where fairness and smooth fps should always come before eye candy. What do you think? Would you prefer grass on or off? Last edited by [8]95|JLt.Celery; 25th January 2010 at 12:00. |

While I dislike 'NO' grass I think less grass would be good.

For a tournament like this I prefer it off, in general I like to have it on (for eye candy).

I vote: leave it on.
The fact that you cannot see an enemy while you lie down in the grass, IMHO has nothing to do with fairness... it's about realism. - If you lie down you can see less, but you're also a smaller target. - If you stand up you can see more, but you're also a bigger target. or I misunderstand your example... PS I would only vote turn it off, if most of the players, with "normal" PC's have performance issues with grass on.

If you look at the pictures, you'll see that "grass on" doesn't make you a smaller target when prone. It only blocks your view but you're still as visible as ever to everyone else. That's not realism.

It is pretty annoying when you go prone to avoid fire and it doesn't work. Also the grass dissappears at long range, so while you are prone and blind a distant enemy can still see you and shoot you. It should be the other way around.

That was supposed to be fixed with the last patch. 1.05 I think it was? Seems fixed to me at least.

While i can see the performance benefit of no grass, to me half the fun of arma2 is how gorgeous the game is. If i wanted to turn off the grass, I wouldn't have put so much into building a game pc. I really enjoy fighting in such a lush, realistic environment. I have no desire to make it look like the game Delta Force from 1997. lol
