Show me some avionics and I'll be changing my pants. But that- if it looks like that ( I think the Dirt engine can) is pretty damn sexy. ArmA 2 (I'm sure I'll by it) will be a joke to this, that I'll put money on.

Another CGI rendered scene. Still waiting for game play vid while the Codies dish out hype.

Therefore I am not impressed.

I dont doubt that could possibly be cinematic and I am sure it was, I am even sure OFP2 will just be another COD4 hyped up on crack cocaine.

I just am so sure that it wont have the abilities to make add-ons like you can with ArmA and so thus the strong community we have wont be as present.

It will probably follow the idea of full mod or no mod where for a mod to exsist it will be only done by full teams rather then the one man or the small teams.

WOW that does look good.
Even though I will not buy a game for eye candy alone. Its got to perform and function as good as Arma or better in the scripting and Multiplayer are.
But my jaw did DROP, I have to admit!

Oww looks like COD 4 with vechicals and more realistic phsyics. And thats what it will probly end up being. But it still looks cool. Got to give it that.

A CM comment about the trailer :

"The upcoming trailer will be CGI rendered, but those are all actual in-game models that you are seeing folks"

I found this on OFP2.info about the quote.

It will not be COD4.

It will be Operation Flashpoint 2.

Things they've told us about OFP2 are a bit of a giveaway.

Facts :
- 220 kmē island called Skira (based on a real island)
- 30 Air and ground Vehicles (Ah-1Z, M1A1, M2A3)
- 70 weapons (FGM-148, M 107, Mk 16 Mod 0, Mk 48 Mod 0)
- Dynamic Building Destruction (Buildings do have several desctruction phases)
- destructible trees
- dynamic weather effects
- mud effects (comparison --> Race Driver Grid).
- weapons won't stay shiny all the time... they will get scratches and get dirty while beeing used
- no dynamic campaign
- easy command system with commander overview
- AI uses real military tactics
- Some weapons have to be assembled before it can be used (f.e. the Javelin)
- Gore Limb Dismemberment will be included

Source (http://www.ofp2.info/)

If they deliver on the island size and the vehicles, then it will be OFP, not CoD4, and therefore I will be happy.

Gamwspot E3 Preview:

At E3 2008, we just received a demo of the upcoming first-person shooter, Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising. If you've been following this game, you already know that it will depict a conflict between the United States and China on a fictional island in the Pacific Ocean. And if you know anything about Operation Flashpoint at all, you can bet that it'll be an extremely realistic take on wide-open militaristic combat. But you probably don't know that the game will feature 70 highly detailed, realistic weapons, and 50 equally detailed vehicles on an island that's 130 square miles of highly dynamic terrain.

You also probably weren't aware that if you went online, you'd be able to play eight-player coop with friends, or 32-player matches against them. And the best part is that even in an online match, you'll still have non-player character squadmates to command and fight alongside of. When the game launches in 2009 for the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, it's possible that you'll enter a 32-player match with 256 combatants (between real players and their NPC minions).

But how will the game look? After all, no one has actually seen it in action. Instead of showing us gameplay, Codemasters showed us a "previsualization" of what the game is intended to look like at launch. From what we saw, they have their sights set on the best graphics seen yet in a first-person shooter. We witnessed an amazing, photorealistic air strike on some tanks that were rumbling along a hillside. Maybe Operation Flashpoint 2 will look like the best thing ever, and maybe it won't. But Codemasters' model for graphical success is extremely promising. And like everything else about Operation Flashpoint 2, it's unbelievably realistic and ambitious.

A big part of this ambitious realism is the island itself. The island is called Shira Island, and it's a real place in a real island chain. However, it's been transplanted into an area north of Japan that was recently discovered to contain large amounts of petroleum, which makes it the perfect setting for an international conflict between the United States and China. Now, you won't be able to actually blow up or off pieces of the island with your giant bombs and dangerous guns. Instead, the developers will populate the island with all sorts of trees and structures for you to blow up instead.

After reading all of this, you probably know that there's still a lot that you don't know about Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising. But there is good reason to hope that this will be one of the best-looking and best-playing shooters on the market in 2009. When we know more, you will too.

Is that basically saying the game has a maximum multiplayer capacity of 32 players....?

That had better be just for console.

[A]1|Sgt.Gunther
18th July 2008, 10:03
As the information starts to trickle in, I can start to form an opinion.

1) If the multiplayer action is REALLY limited to 32 players (and 8 COOP), then we can't use it for AToW, or any serious, large-scale gameplay.

2) Still no mention of mission editing, or modability, which means it probably won't be modable or editable, to any decent degree.

3) Given that they appear to be focusing on graphics, and NOT on multiplayer, then they must be focusing on single player.

CONCLUSION: This means that I'll play OFP2 for the single player, and the pretties. My guess is that the multiplayer will not hold a candle to ArmA2, especially given that ArmA2 will probably be very very moddable.

OFP may be a great example of what sort of games are really possible (even with those heathen consoles), and will probably bring more CS and BF2 fanboys into the fold. I mean, let's face it, OFP2 will probably get more exposure, but ArmA2 will have more replayability.

I can imagine the conversation now.

NEW GUY: "So, I hear you guys play ArmA?"
WE GUYS: "Why yes."
NEW GUY: "Why don't you play OFP2? That's quite a bit prettier, you know!"
WE GUYS: "We'd love to, but the game doesn't support 100 people. Oh, and we can't mod it."
NEW GUY: *gulp* "100 people?!"
WE GUYS: *pause* "Yes."

32 Player PvP?? We've had 32 players per side on battle days!

As they are developing EVERYTHING from the ground up and it's still vaporware, I'll wait to have a playable demo before I form an opinion. I did happen to read that they WILL HAVE an editor for it, so I suspect that we can mod it but lets wait and see. I did like the graphics. If you noted, the trailer used CGI for it's animation not sure if this will make it to final or not.

Overall, I was impressed but we'll just have to wait and see.

I am sure OFP2 will eventually have a 64 player version if only to rival the BF2 / BF3 franchise. But its always better to say you have 32 and then surprise everyone when you can produce 64 later. I only can hope they take this logic.

But now I am leaning back towards Arma2. Hopefully BIS can see this and put some real kick ass focus on MP.

The "destroyed " models didn't seem as complicated as the DIRT type damage models, which to me means a better chance that things could be added.

The tank shot is incredible.

The way he spoke of the vehicle weapon systems and emphasized the IR CM makes me hold out a little more hope that the vehicles will be a bit more simulation like. I'm not asking for 500 page manuals, just a little bit more than point and click.... (Or CM's in general consider arma doesnt have shit....)

Ah that does look sick especially the tank shot. But 20minutes to fly across in the fastest aircraft! thats huge.

Those are incredible images, but they are CGI. Even if OFP2 looks that good it will take a bunch of GPU to make it look that good for you.

Anyone else catch that even though there are 32 MP that 256 will be on the Battlefield? Anyone up for commanding a 4 Man Fire Team PER PLAYER? Interesting Idea, If the AI are laser accurate or too dumb it won't work, but who knows.

Did they say limb dismemberment?
Hm.
About time.

I dunno. Neither ArmA2 or Flashpoint 2 have my vote.
Why?

They're both made for the consoles as well.
Consoles destroy good computer games.

In their defense, though I really don't care, in an interview they promised to the community that they wouldn't dumb the game down so it could be on consoles. They acknowledged their roots, so be at least timidly comforted.

Yeah im not convinced any of those pics are actual screen in-game screen shots. And for a game with this much hype, this big of a company and which comes out in less than a year, to have zero released in-game vid footage or actual game play screen shots.... be concerned.

This reminds me kind of how it went with Ghost Recon 2. No, not Advanced Warfighter. GR2. For 2 years Ubisoft hyped it like crazy talking about all the features it would have, how it would remain true to the original Ghost Recon and how we'd all love it. Yet we saw no in game vid or screens. Just renders. As the release date neared everyone was worked into a frenzy about what it would be like. Forum boards flooded with arguements and debates. Then, right before it was to be released, Ubisoft announced GR 2 did not meet their expectations for release on the PC. That veteran GR players deserved "better" for the PC version. So they sent GR2 to the Xbox and began working on Advanced Warfighter. GR was never the same.
