rFactor Racing

Im thinking of starting up my rFactor Racing dedi server again and wanted to see if there was some interest in getting some type of AToW beginners race league going.

For those that have not played rFactor its a race simulator. There is a HUGE community for it, so when you buy the game ($30 USD), you literally get an unlimited amount of free content such as cars and tracks. So its very much worth the cash. The game also has a very good game engine and the graphics are quite nice. And, it doesn't require a beast of a PC to run with settings on high. But it takes practice and a real world racing mind set to keep your car in one piece and on the track! Its a true sim.

Basically the way I run my server is each week (or so) I post a track and vehicle type the server will be running, along with links to the 2 needed mods from over at rfactorcentral.net. Which is a primary source this games community. Install the track and car mod, join the server and practice, practice, practice. Then sometime at the end of the week we'll set a time and run a 25 to 40 lap race, depending on the track.

If interested post here! Yes, I know there are many other race sims out there... Race 07, GTR2, etc. This is all about rFactor.


Now, many n00bs to this game get frustrated and want to punch their monitor after the first few minutes. While I do not claim to be a pro race car driver, I am willing to hold some training sessions to show guys how to setup the game, their cars and how to drive properly to make the game more enjoyable and quicker than learning it on your own.

Sounds interesting, I've tried what I'm going to call a demo version of this game and raced with the F1 car, which was mental but awesome.

I recently bought Race07 and a Logitech G25 so I'd probably be up for some rFactor.

Also, it was my last day of uni until September today :D

Ok, I downloaded the trial (it's like an hour of playing I think) and the car and track. They both work fine offline but when I joined the server it gave some error with the track and then I couldn't even connect to it, I kept losing my connection.

Still, the track looks good though.

The force feedback is a little odd in rFactor, I think I prefer it in Race07 but it may just need some tweaking.

YES!! There are a number of things to 'tweak' when you first install it. I know what you mean about the force feedback and I already know where to fix it.

You did you install the track and the mod that i have posted in the first link? If not, that's why it kicked you.

it is the full software but in demo mode. You can purchase a license on line and you're sent a code to unlock the rest of the game

As Baz said, yes you'll need to unlock the full version. But rFactor is definitely worth the price if you're a race face. Its game engine has been used by a number of other race sim games.

DOH!! Gin, i just noticed they updated that track on Feb. 08 to version 3! Mine is still version 2. I'll get that updated and you should be able to connect. :o

Just take a look through that rfactorcentral.com site. Hundreds of cars and tracks, leagues and mods. Lots of replay value in this game.

Yeah they do that to get people to donate to pay for bandwidth. But if you look closely after logging in, there's often multiple links. Choose one that is not hosted by rFactorcentral and they are not limited. Also, i'll often host the mod running on my server, over on my file server to make it simple.

Ok Server is updated to Diablo ver.3. Ive also updated the link in the original post to DL directly from my server. Just install it into Program Files\rFactor\Game Data\Locations. Actually all add-on tracks you install in the future go there.

Highfox- I believe one of my best hot lap times was 1:42. Its a nice track to race PvP on. Lots of room for passing without taking out other drivers. Good learning course.

I did a couple of laps earlier and made a 1:56, not amazing but clean at least.

Is it possible to set the server to practice mode during the week? I was on earlier and the AI rammed me off as I was taking a corner a bit too slowly.

I can remove all AI if you like. But they are fun to race against sometimes. I'll see if can increase their intelligence and reduce their aggressiveness.

Is there any way to show the recommended gears for corners like on Race07? It makes learning a new track a hell of a lot easier.

I just placed an order for this on Amazon for £17.99 vs £25 getting the download key. Also, as my OS seems to bork fairly frequently I won't have to keep pestering them for more activation codes with the DVD version.

Chopper should also be ordering it on Wednesday.

If you got it with the TrackIR Ultra bundle its the full license.

i got race 07, gtr 2, and rfactor, and rfactor is the best in terms of realism, but race07 has the best damage models. as for rfactor, right now I can't wait for the next patch, their hopefully going to add drifting, they have a demo of their official drifting stuff but supposedly their adding it full on in the next patch.
