There is a nice German map in the works

I would like to see something a bit differant than the old Sahrani world personally
I'd love to see a new map. This one is quite small, has no airports (BE's for C2) and is completely flat. Haven't seen anything particularly special yet, sadly enough.

Has there been a conversion of the old Operation Flashpoint islands to Arma? Or would they be too small, I've never really sat down and compared the scale.

The ACE Map pack remeade the OFP maps I believe, it also combined them all into one large map.

AT has previously said that the map he is working on is not gonna be ready for campaign 2, but that he is aiming at campaign 3.

A new map would certainly freshen up the battles.
Old tactics/hiding spots/attack routes no longer work, so we all have to wake up and start thinking again :rolleyes:
But creating a new one from scratch is a huge task. It's not just throwing things on an empty landscape.
The biggest challenge is to make it interresting enough.
A good map has a good mix of water, hills, valleys, woods, open area's, roads, towns, cities... etc...
For our type of fighting it even needs to meet additional requirements:
- 3 good starting points (RUS, US, UN) with airfields
- Enough and logically placed objectives and linking stuff.
- big enough for air, small enough for 60 players to 'meet' within shooting range
I remember making the US Bootcamp Base from scratch, already costed me days...
So I wish the person making a new map good luck !
If you are trying to make a new map, remember not to try to over balance it.
We dont want to end up with a chess board style game, where both sides are exactly the same ;)

There's a very good (read 99.9999% chance) we'll be using Sahrani for the next Campaign. Currently there really is no map with the size, terrain and build quality for tournament use.
I think a lot of people bash on the Sahrani island map but dont realize how good of a map it actually is. Sure we've played on it a lot. But we're not using large parts of the island. I think restructuring our objectives might give the map new life. Thats what Im looking into.

Also, with editor update we can place buildings. anyting from bushes to walls anywhere we want.
So basically find open area and we create city there.

Dren i think that is a good thing for us to look at. We could even create a new small town somewhere. Or a huge bunker complex! We just have to use our imagination and think outside the box.

Only problem with that map Dyson is, 1. its totally flat. And 2. Its extremely small.

I don't suppose we can get an empty version of Sahrani? One with all the cities etc removed so that we can create a new arrangement.
And now i'm off to look into Arma mapping.

We are also looking at doing an all North Sahrani battle as a possibility for C2 (Read: NO Desert and no Corazol).

Hhmm.. that would actually still be a large enough land mass. And if we build our own towns/bunkers/objectives in some of the more remote areas to make use of them, it could be pretty cool.

Do you guys realize that in 2 Tours, a mini-campaign and countless "fun battles" we've only ever fought over Bagango and south-ward and over all of South Sahrani. Really never have we waged war in the mountainous northern regions, or the forests of the North East, or the rolling wooded hills of Ixel area. Man, so much terrain, so many possibilities. It would be like a new map.

I really hate the corazol choke point when it the only way any land vechical can really get across be nice to fight on a differnet map but none that are out are of good quailty or if they are they are not big enough so guess we have to dream....:rolleyes:

The closest we got was in ArmaI when we were up in the Benoma, Masbete area. That seems like such a long time ago!!

Not to rain on anyone parade but theres issues with the editor update, any thing you put down thats part of the mod is INDESTRUTIBLE even a fence cant get pushed though with a tank so thats the down side there is a way to put buildings in without the mod put its alot of work and you have to edit the .sqm file in notepad (ie. put in a car in the editor then save open the .sqm with notepad find the car, change the line that states what object the car is, then change it to the building you want) the list of building isn't part of any BIS stuff you have to find the list on armaholic somewhere and then there positioning it hard as well to get it to look right and not to make the building looking like the Leanning Tower of Piza so thats the issue and it CAN be done but its alot of work

iv got buildings, fences, bushes etc.. in my editor list when i place objects.
So i am able to place building without touching notepad.
Need to test that if those are destructionable or not, good point.
one BAD thing tho, they show up on map like bunkers or vehicles (so when you are close to them, it shows them as blue objects on map) for example.

BIS relesed there models can't remeber if they relseaed the map as well (whooo crappy spelling)
P.S dren the difficulty will turn that crap off forgot which one (map markers enabled/disabled i think)

Airstrips can also be placed as objects in the editor, so we could have airfields wherever we wanted assuming we don't get carriers.

Why not just use a carrier? there is one available, it may not be perfect but you can land a BE and choppers on it.

The size is good! And looking at the youtube vid of the flyover, there actually are hills and small mountains on the terrain. Not one big flat square. I say lets keep an eye on this one.
He says only half the map is filled with tree's at this point, so its still a WiP.

The cat afganistan looks like crap. Tons of errors. Like most ports from ofp to arma. I like Iran Iraq border. Some issues with that as well tho. I dunno the Germany one still looks so damn good. Plus the flat areas are useful for adding more buildings and bases.
