You do not physically have to remove RAM from your computer if you have to much simply do the following:

Click Start , in the STart Search box in the bottom type MSConfig and hit enter.

Goto the boot tab, go into advanced settings and change Max Ram to 2000. Do a restart and there ya go.. Simply do it again after ARMA is done and change it back to original settings to gain your ram back w/ another reboot.

Edit:: Here is the added info you request Vipermaul.

There is a LONG drawn out post here about it on BIS Forums but I went my own route and found this solution.. I am not going to physically remove RAm that I need for rendering purposes.

So does this LIMIT Vista to using 2GB of RAM??
I need to be educated in why this is needed and why this works?
For the new guys to Vista like me, please edit your post and describe the problem, and the symptoms that this is a solution for. And it would be great if you could provide a link to the BIS thread that discusses this problem as well.

Thanks.

No, You need a limit of 3072 ram :D This bug is only on 1.08 you can ahve 4 gb on 1.12. Just follow what hoot said and put 3072 insted of 2000.

This is the correct ArmA Vista Troubleshooting - http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA:_Troubleshooting_Vista

Mine still did not work w/ 4gb ram after 1.12 that is why I had to do the steps above.

To clarify, you only need to do this when all the following are met:

You have Vista 64
You have 4GB of RAM
You are running ArmA 1.08

If you are running 1.12 you DO NOT need to do this.

Also, DO NOT set you ram to '2000'. Instead set it to '2048' if you have 2x 2GB sticks, and '3072' if you have 4x 1GB sticks.

If you have 3GB of RAM (why do you have 3GB, nutter) then you do not need to do any of this, only 4GB.

i Have Vista 32 bit and I have to do this for it to work. Patch 1.12 did not fix my issue.

Actually, I forgot that Vista 32bit (or any 32Bit OS) limits maximum RAM for both RAM and GPU for 4GB, which means people with less GPU power do have more RAM, but you should still have LESS than 4GB which means ArmA should work.

Bah, I dunno.

I have 2x2gb ram and can still set to 3072 ram.

You can set it to 3072, but Windows can't use half a stick of RAM, I have a system monitor running in my Sidebar and its 4GB or 2GB, not 3GB.

1.12 fixed my ram issue and my crashes in ARMA as well. I'm running 64 bit vista ultimate.
