As a Council Rep I am interested in hearing from the masses if there is interest in using a new ArmA Sound mod for Campaign 2.
Please vote and if you have a favorite sound mod you'd like to suggest, do so in a post in this thread.
If the vote does show enough interest to change from the current FDF sound mod to a new one, testing will need to be done to assure the sound mod has no performance impact to the game and that the environmental sounds do not give un-realistic balance shifts. Such as hearing someone breath from 20 meters away, inside a building.

I voted yes, but I should clarify.
I think the weapon sounds are great. I really like them. However, the vehicle sounds, especially the broken inside ones, could do with some tweaking I think.

I am currently leaning towards Chammy's. I hope they have sounds for vehicles set correctly by the time BIS releases their final patch.

I don't care which one we use as long as it's not broken and has realistic sounds. FDF is currently broken, Chammy's I've not used, ........ One thing we need to be careful of is: if we do pick a new sounds pack that we not spend the whole campaign chasing lag issues caused by such pack. Myself, I'd like to leave it to each individual player as to what sound pack THEY want to use. But I know that won't happen.

Actually Snowman FDF is not broken. BIS changed the some of the sound .PBO files in this latest BETA 1.12 update. FDF was written specifically for 1.08 arma. There's a good chance that when BIS releases a final official arma update version that FDF will release their matching sound pack.
And I thought you knew why we use one official tourny sound pack? Say im using sound mod X, you're using sound mod Y. My sound pack has extra loud footstep or breathing sounds. So we both run up to a barn building. For you, its silent as you scan for enemy. For, I hear your footsteps approach, stop and then heavy breathing. I just lob a nade over your way, easy kill. Meanwhile you're screaming "you haxor!! there's no way you could have known i was there!! I hate you Super!!" lol

I am very aware of why........seems like you might very well be able to get the same thing if you run your sound through an equalizer and tweak the output, no?

Thats beyond our control. We can control what "official" sound pack AToW uses. If people are running it through equalizers, thats their option. I doubt the majority have this option or care to bother.

I really don't like the current sound mod. Vehicles are ridiculously quite even when your standing by them. Also I personally find the weopens to sound to samey and it's differ cult to tell the difference at times.
I much prefer the new Chammy sound mod!

Another one to consider is this one presented by -7-. Sounds like a contender!

LOL - well since my 2nd poll option was changed that invalidates my vote. As a result the closest option available for my position is the YES Vote.
My position is I am open to finding a better one than FDF if there is a better one out there. From the sounds of it there are many new updated versions of old and new sound packs that can challenge FDF quite well now.

VM would you like me to edit the poll to move your vote to Yes?

is does give false results (my vote included) to change the poll options mid way through the poll, shame on you super :)

Hey, VM told me the wording for the No choice was confusing. Baically YES LETS CHANGE or NO LETS KEEP FDF. Seemed pretty clear though to me.

Just to be fair to Super64, I let him know that there was a poll option missing.
But he changed an existing option which I did not anticipate.
I recommended adding an option for the die hard FDF fans who did not want to change. That is all. Don't beat up Super64 for my inability to communicate plainy. Sorry for the confusion.

What if you want to beat up 64 anyway?
I think 3 options would have been better... yes, no, indifferent.... but oh well. Looks like it's time for a change- Guess i'll have to try some out before I vote. But yes, it only aggrivates me more when you A. go down but B. dont realize it until you hit the ground because you never heard the engine go out.
then again, i bet not getting shot down would help, too.... but it does save some headaches not having to hear the rotors for 3-4 hours along with a chatty radio.

you think rotors are bad try listening to the sam's radar whoomping noise for 3 hours... at least your rotors tell you that you engine is still working...

Ok just to give people something to compare against without installling every sound mod out there, here's a few vids made by people so you can hear them for yourself. Remember, focus on the sounds... not so much the action in the vid!

We need a combination of mods, Chammys has awesome gunfire but everything else is chronically bad. Also, FDF is a lot better now that Viper finally figured out how to apply the hotfix :D

Ah good to know! It hard to keep track of all the different arma sound mods!

I'd like to comment on the sound mods and I can't be arsed to make a new topic about them. So here goes. So far, what I've heard, the most authentic mod is the Chammys one. But the main concern for me is the ricochet sounds. Hell, even the vanilla ArmA sounds are good except for the stupid snapping sound it makes, drives me nuts! So far, I've liked the Chammys and the FFAM. The FFAM ain't just a sound mod but it replaces some elements. For example it adds a nice tracer for every gun, every 5th bullet. As it should be.

That was the OLD FFAM sound mod that replaced the tracers. We made sure it does only the sounds. In fact, 1.53P only does the sounds. We use 6th Sense Pack for our tracers.

I hope he fixed the loud chopper sounds. Other than that, this pack is awesome.
