I belive we need to get a new sound mod as the one we use (FDF Sound Mod) causes quite alot of lag to some players (mostly seen with the M249 SAW). Also this sound mod doesn't support the beta version of Arma which we currently use on battle days and because of this people inside helicoptors cant tell if they're loosing engine power untill its already gone.

I know that we can disable it but cant we have a choice of what sounds we hear on battle day out of a list of tested sound mods maybe???

ie.
FDF - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=896
CSM (the new one coming out) - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=1643
FFAM Mod - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=2220
AACF (very good sound mod with 10 stars on Armaholic) - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=2744
Modern Warfare Modification - http://www.armaholic.com/page.php?id=677

Atow community,

I will give my two cents about this. I would like a new sound mod as well, but I want it replaced with a better one. The only one in my opion that comes close is Chammy's. He will be releasing a all in one sound mod.

Now I have my very one sound mod that I have made. Well I should say edited. I took the best of FDF and Chammy's and mixed them together. You have Chammy's gun soudns and FDF's explosions, vehicles, and environmental sounds. Atow is free to use Mine if they want too.

That is all,
LCpl Haley

Haley has a point about mixing Chammys and FDF, I remember there being a post over at TG that said how to do it.

Also, there was a hotfix released for FDF (1.31) that works with the new betas (ie helos are loud etc) and I believe Viper integrated it but it's not working for some reason.

I can confirm that the hotfix works as I use it myself.

9th|Gin Soaked Boy,

I have put in some of my own sounds too. I love the M24 reload sound. Also where can I get this hotfix?

Thank you,
LCpl Haley

You can download it here (http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=70;t=70630;hl=fdf).

If you still play 1.08 you can make a new folder with a different name (eg @FDF_Beta) and copy the hotfix to that. Otherwise it will replace the current version and you will only be able to use it on 1.09 or later.

I would think any sound mod changes would happen for Campaign 2, if they did happen. As for Overlords idea of letting anyone use any sound mod they like, um.... no. Reason being is different sounds give people different tactical advantages. One mod you can hear breathing clearly from inside a building. Another mod you can't hear a helo from very far off. Everyone has to be hearing and experiencing the same battle day.

But as far as sound packs go, Chammy's has been quite impressive. That FDF/Chammy's mix idea has something to it.

Yes, it would be nice to have a pack that properly works around the 1.09+ engine sound changes. The FDF hotfix fixes some of the helos but not all. It really screws with me not being able to hear the engine rpm's changing.

I have noticed that certain sounds do lag out the game, some more then others. Big guns such as Cobra 20mm and M163 Vulcan can cause big lag.

Yes i HATE how the cobra 20mm creates a cascading explosion sound on the ground for like 30 seconds after you stop firing. It pretty much shuts off all other game sounds as the explosions continue on. I mean, im shooting bullets, not tank rounds.

We could change the bullet hit sound on the Cobra ammo if you say pretty please.

lol Im sure im not the only one it annoys. I mean it should sound like large rounds impacting. But not like fire crackers going off for 30 seconds after the shooting has stopped.

So woundering are we gonna get a new sound mod or what as the FDF mod is bugged and is a lag maker for some people???

It would be nice to get a list of what sounds cause problems for people.

I thought when we tried that week without FDF there was absolutely no lag difference at all, which is why we still use it. Also, the 1.31 hotfix hasn't been applied properly which is why some sounds are still waaay to quiet.

The lag is player side only it mostly affects the M249 to the point when you fire it takes 2 secounds in between the bulliets so its like bang -- bang -- bang when normally its bangbangbangbang

I run a good fast system, still seen some issues with FDF concerning:

M249
Chain Gun on AH-1 Super Cobra
M163 Vulcan - Major lag beast

Plus explosions not always correct, they seem a bit off.

Thanks. I appreciate the post but you should have been beating down my door letting me know this if I hadn't fixed it right away or posted it to the AToW Bug Tracker (http://www.arma-tow.com/bugdb) which I read every other day. Hmm... perhaps I did a terrible job of promoting this new tool.

I will see where I goofed this hotfix up Gin. Thanks for trying it out and posting about.

I personally favour CSM more than FDF.

Did we test CSM with ATOW any time in the past and how it going?

[AToW]ViperMaul

Collectively we only tested FFAM.
But all the sound MODs now have newer version except FDF.
So it is very possible that each and every one of these Sounds MODs are now as good if not better than FDF.

So we will have to start testing and getting educated on them, in preparation for an educated vote.
