View Full Version : Is this possible? t-90 model

Is it possible to decompile an ofp pbo file for a T-90 and remove the model only, and then retexture it so it functions in arma? I know arma and ofp use differen't types of oxygen, but what about the overall structure? Looks like a simple copying of the t-90 model structure over to O2 would be a time saver. :confused:
We might have to get permission from the maker though...

This is a good question. Id love to have a capable T-90 in the tourny. But if you search the BIS forums, so far no one has made a successful T-90 or modded a current T-72. So im thinking its not as easy as it seems. But I could be wrong and the modders have just been lazy.

So i've been messing around and it seems there is no problem copying the models around. It really does look like you can use structures of other t90's in ofp to create one's in arma. This allows the mod team to skip all the modeling time (maybe a little modeling to do, touches). They can then focus all their efforts on all the other things. I know they can do this!
Go mod team GO!:D

Feel free to build and test it yourself man.

I'm working to see if i can just edit the configs for the T-72 so it is more or less the same as the M1A1 and put it in a new .pbo (like AToW-T72). All I can see doing is changing the armour value from 680 to 860 as it is still a smaller tank than a M1A1 (T-72 also has a lower profile too) and the speed from 60 to 68 (M1A1 72 speed, it has a gas turbine you russains!!). And last change the hit damage for the SABOT round from 650 to 750ish.
Heres the stats for each BIS stock 1.08 tank and gun ammo types;
class M1Abrams: Tank
accuracy = 0.7;
armor = 900;
damageResistance = 0.00516;
cost = 4000000;
maxSpeed = 72;

indirectHit = 42;
indirectHitRange = 7;
typicalSpeed = 1300;
explosive = 0.8;

damageResistance = 0.00544;

I appreciate your efforts but the armor and the hit damage need to be very close if not identical for us to even consider switching back to the T72. Anything less and we're right back to using an inferior MBT. That's the whole reason we re-skinned the M1A1 in the first place.

Well if you can get the T-90 to work could you PLEASE try to convert some other things from OFP like a CH-53 Sea Stallion and a Mi-26 Halo?

So i've been watching this for a couple of days, not much activity lately. But it was started not to long ago. He says it's for the crysis and the XAM mod for arma. But if this dies, I still got the decompiled ofp model on my computer. The model on my computer has a fair amount of detail. But if the atow mod people refuse to work on the already structured model, I will need some textures. I'm very new to modeling, so it may take a while for me to do anything with this tank structure.

I don't think I'd characterize it as "refusing" to work on it. There are a lot of other issues to be completed that are a far higher priority than modding a new MBT. If you feel this is really important than by all means start working on the project. It's possible that others may want to lend a hand. But please don't insinuate that the mod team has nothing else to do than work on your idea.

No, thats not what I ment. By using refuse, I ment they didn't want to do it because they were working on other things. Easy to make mistakes when trying to get tones across on the internet. I've never been good at social things.:o

I'm not going to have any time this week to work on this. I've got finals. One class complete is another chance to have a future...

Hmm, been a little busy recently.
We ARE interested.
The likely outcome will be aT-90 with properties either close to that of the Abrams, or with the resource cost of the T-90 adjusted to balance any handicap.
However I can't make any promises as to WHEN this will appear, other than once server performance issue are resolved it will be one of the higher priority tasks.

Yeah, the t-90 has slightly weaker armor than the abrams, but it's speed and technology make up for much of that weakness. The t-90 is also far cheaper than an abrams.

Love the idea of having a Russian Tank for the Russians, currently the T-90 is a good MBT although it is smaller, has less armor, and is cheaper then the M1A1. It's main gun is 125mm and is just as good. It should be easy to make a good balance between the two, provided we have a error free mod first ;)

We may or may not have a model for it, but the Ukranian built T-84 is similar and is told to be a good tank as well. Something to consider.

Well you 2 sound like the perfect T-90 build team. I expect a fully functional, error free, sharp looking Russian T-90 ArmA mod in 4 weeks. Get on it Marine!!

Why would the Marines dirty their hands working on a filthy commie tank? What planet are you on? Just kidding, would love to do it although it seems I barely have enough time to keep up with my current ArmA schedule!

Well think of it this way, we'd be the first one's to model the T-90 for ArmA.

you could put an advert on the barrel for the tournement
edit: Theres a T-80 out... or being made or something. I just saw some pics of it on the BI forum

IDK if this has already been suggested, also I don't know how it compares to the T-72 or the abrams but this has been released, http://www.flashpoint1985.com/cgi-bin/ikonboard311/ikonboard.cgi?;act=ST;f=70;t=69362;st=0. In the download it is the 1975 varient and the fictional 64u which is for the SLA. Again, I don't know how well it comapres to the current MBT's in the game, or to this proposed T-90.

I just read all 13 pages of the thread. I get the impression that it is absolutely no match for the M1 so we would still have balance issues. ATOW has also tried RHS weapons, which were well liked, but had to be removed because they were bug infested. Some serious testing would be required and like many others in the thread mentioned - textures need some work.

Just a note, most every Russian T-x tank made after WWII is designated with the year it was designed or built in, and in cases that it is not the exact year it will give you a very good scale to judge it against lower numbered tanks.
T-62 and T-64 are old 1960's tanks, the T-72 entered production in 1971 and is old technology. Although the original M1 was first introduced in 1979 with technology way ahead of all other tanks, it has been updated to the improved M1A1 model in more recent years.
