Howy, After you ran uninstall, make sure you manually go into C:\Program Files and makes sure the Atari or Bohemia Interactive folder is gone. Also go into C:\documents and settings\your profile name\Local Settings\ and delete the ArmA folder out of there too. That holds all those settings. Then back up and remove your profile folder located in your My Documents folder. Also run a registry cleaner to make sure all references to ArmA are gone. Then reboot and try another reinstall.

Howy - one word "drivers".
Check your video drivers, the latest nVidia drivers I got were not "Arma-Friendly" and so I went back to an older set.

Barmy,
I don't know what your system is but I was having trouble as well and rolled back but I found a fix on the forums (think it was BIS but not 100%).
Me:
Vista x64
8800GTX KO
4 gb ram
Apparently, ArmA does not like 4 gb ram. Went into MSConfig changed the memory to 3072. ArmA runs beautifully with the latest drivers and no 'maxmem 512' in the target line. Hope it helps someone.

Thats a bit of a PITA. Just upgraded from 2gigs to 4. Still on XP so only showing 3.25 so maybe I'll be ok?

You should be. You're seeing that because XP 32bit will not recognize 4gb of mem. And many motherboards older than 1 year old, will not see your DDR as dual channel, only single channel once you get past 2gb. So its a double kick in the crotch. lol

Cool, luckily it recognizes it as DDRII as well.
It's really for when I go to Vista 64 :)

XP x64
7800GTX
2 gb ram
I might have to check my maxmem
Quite often my display just turns into a load of random triangles, and then the whole game crashes and BSODs the machine (nv4disp.dll) .
