The official Wiki can be found HERE (http://community.bistudio.com/wiki/ArmA_Beta_Patch_1.09).
So far my thoughts on this patch is; this is what ive been waiting for! It is true that you can possibly get up to 100% frame rate increase in the North Sahrani part of the island. I was able to raise my view distance and increase all graphic settings in the game and STILL get better frame rates than before.
I have not yet tested any of the other stuff. I was mainly concerned with game performance increases they spoke of. It seems the fog issue is also fixed. As I increased the games view distance, the fog rolled back accordingly. Which it didn't truly do before, at least with the 8800GTX.
Anyone else seeing nice improvements? Or any negative impacts?

- Smoother Frame Rates
- VOIP (sometimes iffy, not 100% compatible with FDF Sounds)
- Motorcycles actually work
- Recoil is a lot better
- More passenger survivability, you can actually escape from the vehicle (sometimes).

all actions of the players seem sped up as well, faster reload times and switching directions while running, made the game a bit less "clunky"

H1GH, this is form the wiki:
'Patch can't be installed if you have beta folder with version 1.07 present:you need to remove beta folder in case you have 1.07 beta folder present in order to install this patch'
I don't know what it means but it might mean something to you.

Ok an update on my 1.09 thoughts. This thing is awesome! My frame rates are CLEARLY up 90 to 100%. I can raise my visibility, terrain detail and everything else at least one notch. The game runs smoother as a whole. This is really how id always wish ArmA would have played. I can't wait till the final release of the patch comes out. W00t!

Is there any bugs reported on the BIS forums that might prevent us from running 1.09 this Sunday (tomorrow?)

I already have a few, but I do live the VON, the Frames increase, the weapon recoil, exept on 50cal sniper.
But anyway I have a bug where I dont see the sky nor the sun, I just see blueness.
I also could not figure out how to get other mods to load with it properly eithrer.

For MODs working with 1.09 try making sure your shortcut has the beta as the last in the list.
For example -mod=@AToW-MOD;beta
Try that.

Here is the shortcut I use (obviously adjust with you own install path)
G:\ArmA\beta\arma.exe -mod=beta -mod=@AToW-MOD -nosplash -world=empty

Which dedicated 1.09 server have you tried your shortcut with so I can try it too?

My TrackIR seems to be fine.
A problem I am having is that the whole game (VON included) seems to be a lot quieter, I'm using a Creative X-Fi Xtreme-music edition. Has anyone else found this?

I have a few problems with my mic i'm not entirely certain that they are the games fault though. My mic just starts going fuzzy in game and stops transmitting my voice and i cannot work out why.

I've seen that happen to various people. The strangest thing is that you can still see their mouths moving in-game, but there is no audio.

is this a beta patch , or the real thing
{Ret}Bond
23rd December 2007, 10:36
the in game Voip is a lot quieter after the patch and the 'Direct Comms' Channel is very very hard to hear hopefully a small fix for the final patch
but the performance increase is smashin.
has anyone else noticed the outside noise levels when driving in different vehicles ?
for example you can hear yourself think when inside the Jets, it feels weird but then again you'd probably be wearing a helmet with ear defenders in anyway. but the same happens inside the BH's even though the doors are clearly wide open :p
and also in the 5T trucks which clearly have the window open (not tried in it the Ural) :D
it all feels a bit weird considering you can hear birds tweeting and not your engine being nailing to get away from a contact.

RE: my trackIR problem.
I tried a fresh install of both TrackIR and Armed Assault with the same result. It works in 1.08 but not 1.09beta. If anyone comes across any info anywhere please send it my way.
Thanks, Steve

This doesn't seem to be working yet. The battle eye stuff is similar to PB and not as solid yet (hence it is released as a part of a beta patch). Trust the AC system that is already in place for the battle server, good stuff, tried and tested and known to work. :)

I'm happy to hear that! :) Can you tell me what you tried?
Specifically, did you see it fail on a file, copy that file to a different machine and run it and have it pass? If so, what did you do to fix the issue?
Have you found a way to stop the scan process when it gets stuck in a loop? What is the timeout, can that be adjusted?
What kind of work-around did you find for the zero byte issue? What about the "sluggishness" thing, where everything feels like it is about a half a step behind your mouse? Is that related to the BE software or some other new feature I need to shut off?
What were your testing specifications, did you have a set criteria, like a known bad file, a suspect file... etc? Did you run it on the SS box, if so, how did you get any suspect file to pass DAC?
Thanks for any info you can give me :)
Oh, did you have any trouble with it scanning your whole machine? I'm sure that I don't want it reporting my browser history and other personal info... any way to lock that stuff down?

Like I said above. We need to test it more with 40+ players for an extend period of time like 2 - 4 hours. My understanding is parts of ArMaTeC's team did light testing and only with a few people on the server. Unless ArMaTeC and the other guys did more testing with more people for an extended period of time that I don't know about.

@mojo We tested it with only 2 players both with the client installed i loaded a well known Byte sector hack and tried to connect and it booted me on mission start so i turned it off and loaded on the server again and it let me in so to me that's a working test.
As a side note all i did was add the config line battleeye = 1; that might not be spelt correctly to the cerver.cfg and copy the installed battleeye folder from my arma dir to the server (might not be needed) and hey presto no need to add any client line and no need to edit any server config lines as all is auto

I'm looking very much forward to your results, I'm going to stick with our current AC systems as when we jump too fast and stumble, we have a minor explosion, a small rebellion and several terrorist groups form.
So, I'll use the snail pace and incremental changes, the stuff we have in and running on the battles is pretty solid though, we did well yesterday with one red chain and two yellows, we did have one flag that didn't change color for some reason, but that was it.
If you guys want to get together and trade server.cfg recipes or anything, I'd be happy to spend some time with you.
On the BE thing, I've found several of the answers I needed, but the ease with which a bad-guy can break it has left me cold. Bastian Suter (BE Developer) DID say that the scans it does were limited - Yet I still doubt this system as everyone on the battle eye client list has either left or is leaving. Check it out - http://www.battleye.com/index.html
Side note - Armatec, congrat on the slot, man - good luck and godspeed.
