Was in the R.E.M.E. in the British Army. I left in 1989.

Our motto was in Latin but in English it was "By skill and by fighting".

A great motto I think, sounds cool in latin too. "Arte et marte" sounds like
Art-ee het mart-ee.

I find the american unit system a lot more confusing than the british one, its all numbers and slashes (***/***) and that. Ofc, your army is hell of a lot bigger than ours, but im intrested - Does the US army have individiual regiments, with specific names, logos, history, identities etc.?

I've heard of a few units being called "regiment" but its always with numbers attached e.g. 506th parachute regiment etc.

Our ones are more traditional, tied to specific geographical areas, and generally only recruit from those areas too. They all have big histories and traditions and special customs and that. Is the US system the same?

USMC 99-03

Boot was in San Diego, Motor T school in Fort Lenordwood (spell check lol) and then my first fleet unit was 3 FSSg, 3rd TSB, Motor T co. in Okinawa Japan. I was there 18 months (with no leave making it one of the longest 18 months of my life) and then to Miramar San Diego. My time in San Diego swinging with the wing made Oki all worth it. Oki was all Infantry support, I did not hump with a pack as much as the Infantry, but as their ride I was with them the whole time.

That's the exact reason I joined Motor T!! I get to live in the field, shoot the big guns and (other than training) I do not have to hump my gear everywhere! Best of both worlds fellas!

Then I got to Miramar and the corps was like a hobby. I felt I had more time off than work lol. That's why they call it swinging with the wing!

While in Oki I deployed to Australia (shoal Water Bay) and met some of the coolest Aussies ever. Shot their rifles and drove their trucks. Good group of guys for sure!

From July 2005 till June 2006 in was in the finnish conscript service in the Lapland Jaegar Bridage.. I first served in the "sissi" company before I went to the NCO school for my reconnaissance training and then went back to the Sissi company. I got trained as a signal man and was the platoon XO.

For those who don't know what sissi's are, check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sissi_%28Finnish_light_infantry%29

After I finished my conscript service, I stayed in as a Drill Sergeant for a year, training recon and signal people, including morse code. In there, I took sniper training and with that, started to train snipers aswell. I retired as a SSgt in 2008 and I'm planning to go back either to train people or to peacekeeping forces in a few years.
