Q. Why has the objective system changed it seems more complicated?
A. The system has changed to try and meet the following goals.
Increase the likelihood of having to fight to take ownership of an objective.
Reduce the potential for long periods of inactivity when capturing objectives.
Reduce the objective rush at the end of a battle day.
We wanted to reduce the amount of time it took to take the larger objectives, but at the same time acknowledging their value in terms of resource points. Therefore, requiring more men to Activate the Zone (start the timer) and requiring a side to have the Take Ownership number of men above what the enemy has in the zone was seen as a good way to achieve this. At first glance it may seem complicated, but it is just a little more complicated to explain all the possibilities.
Q. So if an objective is neutral and has no enemy soldiers inside the capture zone, how many men do I need to capture Take Ownership of it?
A. Assuming that the objective is neutral and throughout this process there are no enemy men inside the capture zone.
The clock will start counting once you have the required number of men to Activate Zone inside the capture area.
Once the Capture Time has passed, if you have the required number of men Take Ownership within the capture area the objective will become yours.
*example*
So if you are trying to capture a Satellite which is neutral and has no enemy soldier within the capture area. You would need to have 2 men inside the capture area to Activate the Zone. Once the 5 minute Capture Time has passed you would need to have a total of 3 men to turn the objective to your colour.
Q. So if an objective is neutral but has enemy soldiers inside the capture zone, how many men do I need to capture Take Ownership of it?
A. Firstly you have to activate the zone with the required number of people. Once the capture time has passed you must then have the required number of men to Take Ownership over and above the number of men the enemy has inside the capture area.
*example*
So if you are trying to capture a Linking Objective which has 1 enemy soldier within the capture area. You would need to have 3 men inside the capture area to Activate the Zone. Once the 10 minute Capture Time has passed you would need to have 5 men to turn the objective to your colour. It would be 5 men as the enemy has 1 man inside the capture area and you need the required number of men to Take Ownership (which for a Linking Objective is 4), over and above the number of men the enemy has, 1 + 4 = 5. However, if you kill that enemy soldier you would now only require 4 men.
Q. So if an objective is owned by the enemy but there are no enemy soldiers inside the capture zone, how many men do I need to capture Take Ownership of it?
A. Firstly you have to activate the zone with the required number of people. Once the capture time has passed you must then have the required number of men in the capture area to Take Ownership. This effectively turns the objective neutral but as the enemy has no men in the capture zone you will then take control of the objective.
*example*
So if you are trying to capture a city which has no enemy soldiers within the capture area. You would need to have 3 men inside the capture area to Activate the Zone. Once the 15 minute Capture Time has passed you would need to have 5 men to turn the objective to your colour. The objective would then become neutral but as there are no enemy in the capture area it would immediately become your objective.
Q. So if an objective is owned by the enemy and there are enemy soldiers inside the capture zone, how many men do I need to capture Take Ownership of it?
A. Firstly you have to activate the zone with the required number of people. Once the capture time has passed if you have the required number of men in the capture area to Take Ownership, the objective will become neutral.
If you have enough men to Take Ownership over and above the number of men the enemy has in the capture area you will then take control of the objective.
If the enemy has enough men to Take Ownership over and above the number of men you have in the capture area then they take control of the objective.
*example*
So if you are trying to capture a city which has 3 enemy soldiers within the capture area that have been in the capture area for over 15 minutes. You would need to have 3 men inside the capture area to 'Activate the Zone'. Once the 15 minute 'Capture Time' has passed for your 3 men you need to have at least 2 more men to turn the objective to neutral.
But your aim to capture the city, so you need to have 5 men over and above the number of men the enemy has in the zone. Therefore you need 8 men in the capture area (3+5=8) in this example.
NOTE: You could just kill any number of the 3 defenders to improve your numbers instead of bringing in more of your own troops, whichever method it takes to achieve 5 more than the enemy will work.
Q. Why isnt Activate Zone just set to the same as Take Ownership and what happens if I drop below the number of men required to Activate Zone?
A. We wanted to prolong the fighting where possible. Once you have enough men in an objective to Active Zone, the clock starts. The clock resets itself if the number of men for a side drops below the Activate Zone value.
If you can keep the required number of men in the zone to meet the Activate Zone value the clock will run continuously. Therefore, as soon as you have the required number of men to Take Ownership over and above the number of men that the enemy has in the zone you will take ownership of the objective.
This comes into play when both sides have enough men in the zone to activate it and have been there long enough for the capture time to pass. Now ownership of the objective can change instantaneously depending on who has enough numbers to have the Take Ownership value over and above what the enemy has in the zone.
