This right now is the only troop carrier fixed wing air craft in Arma. and its not half bad. IT can carry over 30 troops and has 2 different skins we can use. I think it woul be great to have to drop troop sin behind enemy lines. I would make it cost as much as a BH mg.

We can also retexture it. Just it looks bit ugly... looks like creater havent really spended time with it. (might be just the textures).
Why cant we just use BH's and give fast roping to them?

Cause a HALO from fixed wing transport would be SWEET!!! We did a couple of BIS drops last night. Had a blast. Would be a great addition to the tournament I think. BTW I'm all for the fast rope deal too.

I would give my vote for using this aircraft for troop drops. More so than fast roping from the blackhawks. Talk about a sitting duck!

Is there a max height that the SAMs scan at, as it would seem a bit unfair to try and fly a fixed wing full of troops really high yet still get taken out by a SAM

Yes currently the SAMs have a max ceiling height of, I think, 1000 meters. That would allow troops to at least get out of the plane alive. Getting to the ground is another story. Making for some exciting HALO jumps! haha

We have to ask two questions. How high can this fixed wing fly? The SAM firing range of 2250? or is that 1800? I should check to see what the last balance team figure made it in. But testing it is not beyond our capabilities in a BTE, Balance Team Evaluation release.

I would say there should be a ceiling and a floor to the SAM. Something like 50ft-5000ft would be the effective range for a SAM. Just an idea for a starting point. It should push the Fixed wing out of the range to make it easy to complete its mission though. I wouldn't call it unfair so much as poor planning. Knowing where the enemy SAM(s) are would be vital to mission success. Thats where Recon comes in.

In the real world, 5000ft would be realistic. You have to keep in mind our compressed battlefield. 5000ft might be a little high.

True. It was just an example though. I'll leave it to the pros on how high to go. :D

I could see us making good use of the HALO jumps from 1500 - 2000 ft though. I really think we have yet to really use this feature!

while testing I found the max height for the BE was about 2500, but it took ALL day to get there, its top speed in 405 in level flight 550 in a adive and about 200 in a climb. can easily seat 30 players. But is not would i would call manueverable lol. IT does its job and heads home.

The only purpose I can see for it is to drop HALO troops. If it flies outside of AA engagement range is there a need for a human pilot? Do pilots want to fly that kind of mission?

I could see being able to fly above the MANPADS engagement range but I don't think anything should be unengageable. Unengageable? I wonder if that is even a word...

Since this aircraft is defenseless I would say perhaps extend the SAM's radar reach to detect it, but not fire on it. That way the defending army would know its up there and to expect it to start raining men.

I disagree. The whole reason for doing a HALO drop in the first place is to get troops on the ground in hard to reach places, quietly. Thats why they are mostly done at night. If its hard to reach because of AA cover then you need to find a better way in. Or, destroy the AA cover before a drop is made. Either way, I think the targets should not be "unengagable." ;) I think they should be smart about how they plan to ingress for the highest probability for mission success.

Very well made mike! Only thing I would have like have also seen was some shots of the interior and cockpit. Im starting to think this might really be worth of tournament testing. Perhaps the first fixed wing ever allowed?

Could be the way to get the Air to Air Jets in game as well.... to escort in the "DropShip"

I like that idea Hoot. Too bad the Harrier so outclasses the SU it isn't even funny. Looks like another reskin job then. :(

edit - Well, there is the YAK-38 which has lines that are at least in the same ballpark as the Harrier.
