I have been fighting with Arma II for a while now, did some online searches and can't seem to fix the problem not matter what I try.
Issue:
When ArmA II Starts the screen is just black, I hear the audio and get no video.
My setup:
Windows XP SP3
4 GB RAM
Athlon 7750
ATI 4870 1 GB
What I tried:
Newest Video Driver
Newest Audio Drivers (sounds funny but I saw it in a forum, thought I would try)
Setting Windows system memory to 2048 MB to avoid 4GB XP Issue.
-maxmem=512 option in command line (don't know if it works in Arma II)
what next?
I am thinking about reloading DX 9 just for the heck of it, doubt it will work.
Any thoughts?

Tried DX 9 re-install, no dice.
Could it be my 1GB Video Card?

Could it be your monitor doesn't display the res the game is in / Hrtz? As my monitor does that if its in the wrong res/hrtz. You can change those setting in the Arma2.cfg file.

Nurm, just for kicks do you have another vid card you could put in the pc to try? Not to play the game on... but just see if you even see the splash screen and menu when it launches. Also, when you updated your vid drivers, how did you do it? Unless you ran Driver Cleaner Pro, you most likely did not do a clean install. And all kinds of problems can result from left over vid driver gunk.
I doubt the problem is your 1GB of GPU mem. Others are using that card just fine.
Next I would try systematically removing sticks of memory and trying each time. Maybe a bad sector in your memory?

DAMN IT! :army_redface: I hate it when It is something so simple. I actually tried the old school commands to set the x= and y= params so that the res would be supported, I even thought about setting the refresh rate but didn't think about arma2.cfg. My LCD does not support 75 hz, once I put in 60 for the refresh it was great. Need to sleep and go to work. Thanks Overlord.

How were you forcing your LDC to 75hz?? Pretty much ALL LDC's run at 60hz. Is this something you specifically set before this problem started? Or was your monitor forced to 75hz before installing?

Not true super. I got my old dell first generation 19" lcd and the blurry son of a b**** can run at full 75hz. LOL! Its funny cause if I go 1" higher to 20" I will get an incredibly sharper image.
Around 3015 pixels more per square inch. Thats like a small natural AA.

I didn't force my monitor to anything, it was all Arma II using those settings.

I got win Vista with the same video card you have 4870 1GB and it runs pretty good, so your card shouldnt be an issue.
