View Full Version : When are you guys going to gear up for ArmA 2?

Well I'm new here, I had played ArmA 1 recently because I wanted to try out what it's like, and now playing the arma 2 demo. I'm loving it, but my point is to play with mature people and use teamwork/tactics and realism. I had been dreaming of this since project reality stopped working.
Anyway I see your steps to join and required downloads, etc, are still for Arma 1. When are you going to change all of that to ArmA 2? Because I want to try to join, so I always have good people and servers to play on.

We hope to start a beta A2 campaign in the next few weeks, we are mostly waiting on our members to update to A2.
So it is best to join up now, get on TS and start playing with the guys that have A2 already, myself and jimmythedeath have dedi servers up and running and the atow servers will be changing over soon.

Welcome to AToW Litos! Man, you're going to love arma in this environment. Right now we're kind of in limbo, between campaigns as we get the tourny and everyone migrated over to ArmA2. But we're getting there. Get comfy, hang out... practice ArmA2!

Under the step one, I see the download mod part. It mentions, if i remember correctly, that they are still making the ARMA II mod. What shall I do?
Im probably going to spend tonight, and saturday messing with single player, but will deffinatly need to get online for the battle sunday (if its ARMA II). Im new, so sorry if this is yet another question that you have answered a bizillion times.
And can I connect to TS without being in an army yet? Or being on the server?

Alright thanks guys. I forgot to mention that I hadnt played Arma 1 multiplayer, so I might be a bit confused at first, and I'm not used to the system itself either. Also, I'm getting ArmA 2 on monday, on the 29th. For now I'm just trying to practice within the demo.
It's hard at times, though, so if you wouldn't mind me joining I hope you'll be able to deal with some screw ups :P But I'm a quick learner, and I've been playing FPSes and other games for a long time so soon enough I should get used to everything.
Cheers!

I cannot get into TS server. First, there is no 'gTeamspeak' link as the instructions say. And when I do get to the gTeamspeak via differnt route, I put my password in that I want, and hit Go, nothing happens. Just sits there saying "waitinf for http:......"
help!

there is a slight problem with g teamspeak but if you look in at the front page on the lef you will see a link that will work.

Yep, I apologise for gTeamspeak not working at the moment but the link on homepage works. Seems that gTeamspeak has been semi-removed. VM is working on it.

In other words, gTeamspeak at an FMC state. However, we will be moving over to ArmA 2 soon. As far as the mod goes, just wait, the old arma 1 mod is just for arma 1. We are moving over to ArmA 2, however it takes time to get everything set up. Luckily, until then, you can hang out with us and chill. We play things other than ArmA as well over here, not officially of course, but once you get on teamspeak, you'll see that we have a very mixed up community. The teams have a wide range of gamers and personalities on them, and as such, you are likely to find someone to play various games with, including DCS, FSX, X-Plane 9, Men of War, even CSS and Insurgency. I personally fly the first 3. Just hit us up on TS, and we'll gladly, get you orientated.
Right now I myself am waiting on my copy in the mail, however it shouldnt take long... although as Barmy said in another thread USPS is "special"
And don't worry about screw ups guys, as long as you don't act like an ignorant idiot, you'll fit in here. We have only had one or two people fail MEPS, and that's because they were acting like jag-offs and just doing whatever the hell they liked and not listening to and following instructions. If you just apply common sense, you'll do fine. We were all new at one point, and we'll gladly show you the ropes.

Alright, thanks! I gotta wait till the 7th though, I won't get ArmA 2 till then. Bloody gamestop, they were originally releasing it today but now it's delayed :(

Ok, I just got ArmA 2 (gamestop canceled it so I had to import it). Installing it now.
I got into teamspeak, gonna see if I can talk to anyone now.

Awesome man. Get familiar with AToW and ArmA2 and get ready for some fun!

Wow, I just played the game... The first impression is that the demo is FAR off from what the game is actually like. I hated the demo... it seemed so dull and everything, and I just played the first campaign mission and it was awesome! Secondary objectives dude? You get to chose so much! Like either send in an air strike but risk killing citizens, or risk yourself for their lives and use satchel charges instead... and no bugs at all so far. Great!
Oh and btw, what do I do now? You know, the get familiar with AToW part. The thing is, I don't want to go into a random MP server and end up with some random people who don't play right. I want my first MP experience to be right, so I'm relying on AToW here. Do you guys have a training server up?

Not quite yet. But, this coming sunday we'll be playing one more "fun battle" to test our mod and have some fun. I say come to that for sure. 1700GMT

The "fun battles" tend to be loose in regards to our rank structure and how we handle combat when compared to our actual campaign. Sometimes we joke around, sometimes we have serious fights with random teams, sometimes the mod team needs us to test a few specific things. When it comes to actual campaign battles we cut the chatter, put on our business hats, and run things the way a military sim player would expect. We don't act 100% like the military but any variances we make from that path are made for the sake of entertainment, unless the idea of fire guard interests you LOL.

Well that's what I meant. That's why I bought this game on the first place. I even bought a business hat
Also I have issues understanding time, what's 1700 GMT? I think I read somewhere that these go at 1.00 PM GMT -5 every sunday (which is my timezone). Is it that?

1700 GMT would be 1200 GMT -5. So for that time zone the battle day would last from noon to 3pm or 1pm to 4pm depending on daylight savings (I live in Arizona so I don't deal with resetting my clock but the whole system confuses me).

Hop on during the weekend. Seems more guys are around. Also since we're between campaigns, things are slow. Once the battles start, guys start practicing and gaming together.
About the time thing. I am in CST. For me 1700GMT is noon.

Just set your server filter for ATOW and you'll see it! Also in the forums there is connection info. Battle day passwords are posted in a thread before battle. Unless its a fun test. Then its one of our standard ones. Anyone could tell it to you.

So what is it tomorrow, a battle or a fun test?
And how does it work? Do I have to be part of anything, or have some kind of a specific identification... In fact if I am to play these organized things seriously, I'd love to sign up for a pilot. Preferably Su-25. Does this kind of stuff go around here? Although of course I'd love to do some infantry playing once in a while too, I love following orders and being in a squad and everything, but I'm not as good at it. :P

Hey Litos. Yes, you'll need to register and sign up for an army. You can either donate $5 to choose an army, or enter yourself into the random army player pool for free.
We don't use fixed wing (jets) currently in AToW. As you can imagine, one bomb pretty much wipes out everyone in the battle zone. haha You will enter your army as Infantry. From there you can request to 'try out' for their air wing. Aircraft are very valuable resources during an AToW battle day. Not just anyone gets to just hop in and go with them. ;)
Litos
19th July 2009, 15:56
That's pretty self explanatory, that's why I'm asking if there's a specific process to sign up for the air wing, pass some tests or something and be allowed to do it. Su-25 does't have the bombs by the way, only bombs against ground targets (which is what I specialize in).

Hey are training servers up yet? Because before a seroius battle I'd like some practice.
Also, was fun on sunday. Hopefully if I decide to join AToW I'll be approved! :P

The next 2 Sundays will be handled as formal training. Both armies will get the chance to learn the objective system and map. I suggest you go ahead, sign up and select an army.
