| Updated 3rd June 2010 by Undeceived |
Welcome to AtoW Please take your time and read the following information. Our mission is to deliver the best possible ArmA 2 tournament. But what makes a tournament the best? In our opinion it's the players! Not just people who turn up and play, but also people who get involved. A collection of players, all passionate about the same thing: Playing ArmA 2 at its very best. We also strive to include new and exciting features to bring a new level of immersion and challenge. These are either created by our in house team or by working closely with many of the talented authors within the ArmA community. Our Organisation There is no owner, no one person in control. The tournament is overseen by the player's council, responsible for developing and evolving the tournament in accordance with the player's wishes. We want to get as many players as possible involved directly in the running of the tournament. We have a highly talented mod team who work on our in house coding projects along with a balance team to continuously examine existing and upcoming features to ensure they only enhance the game play experience. And there is a UN team to run and administer the battle day, as well as teams to handle web/forum development and recruitment/advertising. There is also the opportunity to become part of the organisation for your army, assist in training, planning, reconnaissance help to ensure that your side is in a position to win. But even if you can only commit to being involved as a player you are a valued part of the tournament and can still feel like your voice is important and your opinion matters. Join Theatre of War and be part of a player's tournament. Please follow the steps below to get yourself started within AtoW. |

| Step 1 - Getting Set Up |
| These are the tasks you need to do in order complete Step 1: |
|
1. Forum Registration First of all you need to register on the AToW forums. If you haven't done it yet, please register now and then come back here. 2. TeamSpeak Setup Now you need to gain access our TeamSpeak 3 server. Download and install the software if you don't have it yet. In the TeamSpeak main window go to "Connections", then "Connect". Our adress is ts3.arma-tow.com, the port: 9987. Under "Nickname" put in your forum username. Click "Connect" and there you go (there is no password at the moment)! If you see people on the server and if you want, go ahead, try to reach their channels, introduce yourself and have a little chat with them. We are always happy to get to know new people! Maybe they can even help you with the mod setup or show you some useful and important things. 3. AToW Mod Setup Ensure that you have the latest ArmA 2 final patch installed. You can download it here. We use Yoma's AddonSynch tool to install and update the AToW mod. The link to the installation instructions is here. You will also find every mod update notification in this thread. After having installed or always when you updated the mod, check if you can connect to our MEPS Server: In the ArmA 2 multiplayer screen filter by "TOW". Select "YES" to show Battle Eye servers or leave it at default. Server name = "[ATOW] MEPS - Military Entrance Processing Server" There is NO Password. The server will not allow you to connect with custom content. You must be able to get completely in the game with "boots on the ground". Once you have successfully connected to the server without being kicked for bad signature/incorrect mods you can move onto step 2. If you have any problems or questions, please check our little FAQ section here or join our TeamSpeak server and join the "Help! Urgent Support Needed" channel. We will be glad to help you! |
| Step 2 - Getting to know the AToW rules |
| Theory is important! Read and follow the rules. |
|
As we take playing ArmA 2 above and beyond the unmodified game, you need to equip yourself with a little knowledge to get the most from our battles. Also (as every community) AToW has general standards which are defined by the rules. In the following links you will find our TeamSpeak and forum rules, as well as the role the UN plays in our tournament. TeamSpeak RulesForum Rules UN Rules Once you understand these basic rules you are ready to complete this step and move onto the next. After joining an army, you will also receive the rules of our battle days. This may happen in form of a MEPS (Military Entrance Processing System) or / and additional reading. |
| Step 3 - Signing up for an army |
| Congratulations! You are almost ready to be deployed! |
The final stage of becoming a full AToW player is to sign up for an army. You will be assigned randomly to one of both armies but you can also join the army of your choice by donating $5. Keep in mind that running the tournament has its costs, so you can help us to fund the server through this. Once you have selected an army (and your donation has been confirmed) or you opted to be randomly assigned, you will see many more sections in the forum. There will also be a section specifically for your army. Both armies have a new recruit section so make sure you sign in to say hi and follow the instructions about changing your user name to apply your army's tags. Although both armies run things there own way, you can expect to receive a little more "basic training". This will most likely cover how your army organises itself and operates. You will also be assigned to a unit and will have the opportunity to sign up to learn about some of the more specialised roles AToW has to offer. If you have any questions along the way, feel free to ask members of your army or members of the UN. Good Luck, your journey is about to begin. Have fun and be welcomed to the ATOW tournament! |
